ANYA ZIOUROVA

escribing her style as chic, understated, and effortless.  Anya has been on the internet radar as one of the most stylish fashion editors to photograph.  Her way of styling herself, a celebrity, photo-shoots is unexplainable, unique and timeless.

I asked Anya a few questions about her career as the Fashion Director of Russian Tatler, favorite designers, if she feels that the term 'fashion stylist' is over-rated, her view on what it takes on being a successful fashion stylist, and giving advice to aspiring stylists and editors.

BEGININGS IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY

I have always loved clothes, dressing up and inventing outfits.  Back in Russia, there was not much choice so I always let my imagination go and got inspired by looking at images of Italian Vogue and Cosmo at my friend's house.  When I saw a picture of a dress that I liked, I would copy it with my seamstress.  And then I would just start designing my own dresses, combining all the elements I would have seen in fashion magazines.

I also used to make clothes for dolls, men, and women and was very good at it.  When I went to New York I was modeling, but quickly realised while doing shoots that being a stylist and coming up with ideas and telling a little story is what really interested me.  Then I got an internship at American Vogue and fell in love with the whole thing even more.

If I am in New York I wake up around 4:30 - 5:00 a.m. and get on the phone with Russian office to go over daily matters, discuss pages with my team or talk about shoots planning.  Then I go to the gym around 6:00 - 7:00 a.m.  Then go to the office or do meeting during the day.  If I am shooting or travelling the day always varies.

IS FASHION STYLIST OVER-RATED

Job of a Stylist definitely became more popular in the last years.  It is a hard job though, but it is very interesting and if anyone wants to try to be a stylist then why not.

FAVORITE FASHION DESIGNERS
